“It’s hard to forget someone who gave you so much to remember.”

He was right. Unforgettable words, unforgettable lies…

Another impatient knock announced a presence at the door, yet you still made no move to answer it. The will to live no longer existed within you; it had left you like the leaves fell from a tree during autumn. With a thousand painful emotions swirling inside you, all you could do was lay there, curled up in a ball on the kitchen floor as your body wracked with sobs. You had trusted him with your heart, and in return, he had shattered it into a million pieces.

The sound of keys jangling in the lock met your ears and your heart caught in your throat. There was only one other person who had keys to your house, and he was the last human you wanted to see. Ever.

“Love you? (Name)-chan, how dense can you be?”

The door opened with a creak; dread washing over your entire being. You just wanted him to leave you alone to your self-loathing – what more could he want? He had broken you beyond compare and yet here he was, as if there was anything more you could give than your love.

“That’s such a human thing to say~! Haha, are you living in a dream?”

Footsteps were getting closer. The gentle thud against hardwood meeting your ears made you feel like a stampede was coming to trample on you, and it quite possibly was.

“You’re such a stupid girl. Did you really think I would fall for someone as mundane as you?”

Two black shoes appeared in your vision, and you wanted more than anything in the world for them to disappear from sight and never bother you again. Dizziness encased your mind, preventing you from functioning. You couldn’t look into those eyes. You didn’t want to see the deceit in them when he told you once again that he loved you and never wanted to leave you – how playing with your feelings was merely an experiment on human emotions. That part was true, but loving you? You just couldn’t believe that monster even had a soul within him after he encased himself in his corrupted world.

No, no… Please go away… Don’t come near me…

Then that voice. That voice that once said the sweetest things to you was now what you dreaded hearing the most. Each word was like a note to the most beautiful melody you had ever heard. Now, listening to him even say the word hi made you want to scream.

“(Name)-chan? What are you doing lying on the floor like that?”

He knelt down next to you, brushing the messy strands of (h/c) hair away from your red eyes, looking into them with his usual sadistic smile painted on his face. You wished that you had the strength to turn away, but at present, you could barely move.

“Hm, are you… Crying? Aww, I didn’t know you could be that pathetic! Come here~.”

Izaya didn’t give you the choice; he hoisted you onto his lap before a word of protest could leave your lips. Sitting cross-legged on the floor, he gently rocked you back and forth in an attempt to calm you, soothingly rubbing circles on your back. You no longer had the strength to push him off, and so you just cried, letting the tears of anguish and hurt run down your cheeks – the tears that he caused.

“W-why are you here…?” you whispered, dreading the next words he would utter. You didn’t want an answer, yet at the same time, you had to know.

“Isn’t it obvious? I came to comfort my sweet little girlfriend~.”

You wanted to throw up at those words. That wasn’t the reason, and you were a fool for thinking so in the first place. Izaya Orihara was incapable of love, and everyone in Ikebukuro knew that much, yet you, the stupid optimistic girl who tried to see the good in everyone, tried to make him open up to you. He tricked you into falling for him, and you loved him like you had never loved anyone before… But his words were merely lies, his actions only ruses.

“G-girlfriend? You never loved me… It was all a trick… You made that clear the day you broke my heart…”

“I’ve always wondered what a heartbroken face truly looked like. Human emotions are so interesting~.”

You gulped, choking back a sob. Izaya embraced you tighter – a gesture that would normally make you feel safe. It did the opposite now. “…why me?”

The information broker let out a chuckle, “it was so easy to get to you, (Nickname), and even easier to break you. Just look at the state you’re in, crying over me~! It’s scary how much you trusted me!”

Was it worth it?” you seethed, glaring at him with as much hate you could possibly muster. An amused glint formed in his eyes, riling you up even more.

“It was worth every part of it. I never thought someone would even attempt to find any good in me! How wrong I was. You’re nothing special to me, but you knew that, didn’t you? Like everyone else in Ikebukuro, you’re just another pawn in my game~.”

“D-did you… Even love me at all?” you felt a pang in your chest when you said that, and only wished you could take those words back so you wouldn’t have to hear his heart-shattering answer.

He merely grinned. “Oh, (Name)-chan~. You know I love humans – that will never change. By default, I guess that means I love you too~! Though, let me make this clear; I said I love humans, but that doesn’t mean I love you especially.”

And there it was.

The truth that you had desperately wanted for so long had announced its presence, but you were starting to regret wanting it. There was no forgetting what you had just been told – the words had been burned into the back of your skull. Izaya didn’t love you. He never loved you. Everything he had ever done or said was a lie, yet you couldn’t say you were surprised. Why would someone as intelligent, talented, and as handsome as Izaya Orihara ever love someone as normal and as boring as you? There was nothing special about you; no hidden talents, no secret skills. You were as plain as the second day of spring.

“I s-should’ve… I…” you wondered if you were going to cry again, but that was exactly what he wanted. He wanted to see the full extent to that, and you weren’t going to give him the satisfaction.

A gasp left your throat as his hand stopped at the bottom of your shirt. It slowly trailed its way up, caressing the bare skin of your back. Your eyes widened in shock, the informant grinning at your obvious displeasure. You didn’t say anything, however, and so he continued his advances, proceeding to place chaste kisses on the side of your neck. You let out a sharp squeal as he bit down on a soft spot, beginning to suck on it. His hands moved upwards, touching you and squeezing you in places that brought heat to your cheeks just by naming them. You felt so uncomfortable, and this only seemed to egg your ‘lover’ on.

“Enjoying yourself, (Nickname)~?” he questioned, amusement evidence in his tone of voice. His head moved to rest on your shoulder before pulling the clothing away from it and harshly biting down, causing another yelp to leave your throat. You felt him smirk against you, only making you want to slap him even harder.

“You’re a disgrace to humanity…” you whispered, a moan escaping your lips as he sucked the sensitive spot on your neck.

“Awww! That’s mean, (Name)-chan~! Especially when I love humans so much… I like to think I contribute in some ways to make the world a better place. Hmm~? Or maybe you’re just saying that because you want me to punish you? You’re such a naughty girl~.” In one swift motion, Izaya had your arms pinned behind your back, roughly attacking your lips with his own. The kiss was rough and dominant, his tongue exploring every inch of your mouth. After what felt like forever, he finally pulled away, leaving you a breathless and heated mess. Refusing to look up at him, you collapsed onto his shoulder, catching your breath as you spoke.

“I-I should’ve listened to Celty… She warned me to… To s-stay away from you, th-that you only enjoyed… S-seeing people s-suffer, but I… I was so…”

“Stupid?” he finished with a chuckle, and you clenched your fists to ease your frustration. “That’s a common human emotion – as well as curiosity. You couldn’t help yourself. Of course, you felt guilty, but you justified it with the fact that you were doing it for love, and if anyone could change me, it would be you, right? That’s just like you, (Name)-chan~! You think you’re special, don’t you? But guess what; no one is.”

“Izaya, I—”

“Shh,” he cut you off, moving his hands even higher up your shirt, beginning to peel the layer of clothing off of your form. Your arms reached out to stop him, but he responded by harshly biting down on the skin beneath your collar bone, causing you to cry out.

“You’re despicable.”

“I can’t deny that.”

“You don’t care about anyone but yourself.”

“I care about all humans, but if you want to view it like that, I won’t stop you~.”

“You… You’re a black-hearted monster.”

He chuckled. “You think so?”

“Yes… You didn’t think twice before trampling on my heart!! You’re… You’re the worst person alive and I want to hate you so badly, but I can’t!! Didn’t you get what you wanted from me?! Why can’t you just leave me alone?!”

It was true. You no longer understood his motives; you didn’t know what else he could gain from you. Hadn’t he hurt you enough?

The tears once again began to cascade down your face like a waterfall. No longer could you hold them in. Izaya halted his movements in taking off your shirt, instead letting his hands drop to his sides. The sound of your quiet sobs was the only thing that bounced around the room, the information broker caught off-guard by your outburst. He waited a moment for your sniffles to die down before opening his mouth and daring to speak once more.

“…If you really think that, why don’t you ask me to stop?”

The same gleeful teasing tone didn’t coat his voice when he said that – he almost sounded… Remorseful; an emotion you were certain the sadistic male didn’t possess. You were sure he was faking it, most likely to see your reaction, but that no longer mattered.

He looked up when he heard your shuffling, vermillion eyes widening when he saw you move to take your shirt off yourself. It was a bold action he had never seen performed by your timid self, and he thought he had figured out your personality completely – this turn of events certainly was not at the least expected.

“You know why…” you murmured, bringing your (e/c) eyes to meet with his. The tears had seemed to wash all the fire out of them, leaving them dull and lifeless.

Cupping his cheeks, you recited a line you had heard him say a countless number of times.

“Temptation is a fickle thing. One single glance could be all it takes to be enraptured forever.”

The snake before you had brought you to the Garden of Eden, and you could not dissuade yourself from tasting its golden fruit.

With a single movement, you captured his lips in a venomous kiss.

Artimist - Blush / Embarrassed / Shy / Stuttering WELL... Um... This is the first time I've written something this... mature. It's not even that bad - like, PG12? And I still struggled. Oh well - I'm a writer, and I have to challenge myself with writing all types of genres... Hehe... So, I hope you enjoyed it? This is probably as mature as you're gonna get from me for a while; I'm definitely not ready for writing full on smut. xD I wouldn't be able to handle it.

yEAH so this was inspired by a conversation I had a while back with Words-Of-Fate about how we don't think Izaya would really be open about his feelings and he might just be playing his lover to see their reactions - you know, the same old sadistic info broker xD

I'm leaving it up to you to decide whether you think Izaya was really in love with Reader-chan or notShrugs

I think that's it? Feel free to leave a comment! I love hearing from you guys <3
Hope you enjoyed!! Izaya Smirk
